11th Annual Youth Hunt

11th Annual Youth Hunt

Date(s): Oct 23 - 23, 2021
Hours: 8:00 AM
Event: 11th Annual Youth Hunt

Our 11th Annual Youth Hunt was a great time for 35 area youth hunters and family members.  This hunt was Free to Youths 12 to 16 years old and was held at Three Arrows Hunting Preserve in LeRoy Minnesota on the 23rd of October, 2021.

Parents or guardian accompanied the youth on the hunt and walked the field with their young hunters.  It was a sea of blaze orange in the pheasant fields of LeRoy and the weather was crisp and clear for the hunters, a picture perfect day that had temperatures that allowed the dogs to work hard all through the hunts.

Adult volunteer dog handlers and their dogs were provided for the hunters to aid in the flushing of the pheasants.

Hunters provided their own 12 or 20 gauge shotgun with a working safety.  If they did not have a shotgun, one was provided for them by our Pheasants Forever Chapter.  Shot gun shells were also provided for the hunters.  Refreshments were provide before and after the hunt.  The youth and were also treated to raffle prizes of hunting accessories and two lucky youth won their own shotgun.

We would like to thank our dog handlers for their volunteer spirit and the opportunity to watch their dogs work.

We would also like to thank our corporate sponsor for this event the SEMA Equipment Company of  Grand Meadow Minnesota.

Thank you also goes out to Ben Jacobsen and his team at Three Arrows Hunting Preserve who provide the venue for us to have our events.

A thank you also should be extended to our chapter members who work so very hard to put on these hunts.  We are thankful that we can give back to the next generation and provide for them a wonderful opportunity in the great outdoors.  We hope you will remember this time in fields fondly as you grow and can someday carry on our legacy of habitat conservation and preservation.

Hours: 12:00 AM
Event: 2021 Paint The Town Pink Fundraiser

On February 20th 2021, Mower County Habitat and Pheasants Forever Chapter #670 co-sponsored a charity trap shoot/BB gun shooting event with the Cedar Valley Conservation Club to benefit the Hormel Cancer Research Center for the Annual Paint The Town Pink festivities.

Pheasants Forever Chapter #670 provided volunteers as well as the clay targets and shells for all the participants to use during the events.  The Paint The Town Pink event was a progressive fundraiser that offered participants the chance to win prizes by filling out a bingo card as they went around Austin and participated in 16 different events ranging from turkey bowling, to trapshooting.  The Cedar Valley Conservation Club was the site of trapshooting (hot pink clay targets provided by PF Chapter #670) as well as air soft BB gun shooting for all who wished to participate.

Participation from the Austin community was brisk at this event and the traffic that came to CVCC was pretty constant from 1:00-4:00 pm on Saturday February 20.

We are proud to support the fundraising efforts for this ”world-class" facility.  Hats off to you for the work you do Hormel Cancer Research Center.

It was a great day for pheasant hunting. Cool, with just a few sprinkles to wet the dogs noses so they could find those birds that were sitting tight in the grass.

We cannot go any further without thanking our Corporate Sponsor

ABSOLUTE ENERGY of Lisle MN.

Without the their help and the help of all the participants, we just couldn't put on great events like these and raise the much needed funds for cancer research.

Thank you again (as this was our second big event in two days) to all the volunteer dog handler hunter hosts, Ben Jacobson and his team at Three Arrows Hunting Preserve and all the really, really, great volunteers from Chapter #670 Mower County Habitat and Pheasants Forever. You all are the spark that lights the fire for these good works!

The 9th Annual Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Opener, was held October 11-12, 2019. This year’s event was hosted for the first time by Austin, located in the southeastern part of the state.

“I thank the people of Austin for graciously offering to host the 2019 Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener,” said Gov. Tim Walz. “The Pheasant Opener has become a special Minnesota tradition, made possible by our tremendous host communities. I look forward to another fantastic opener in Austin this year.”

Austin was selected through an application process that considered hunting and in the area, event facilities and community support. With the recent resurgence in the pheasant population in the Austin area, now is the perfect time to showcase this hunting resource. Austin’s outdoors heritage also includes the Cedar River State Water Trail, grasslands, State parks, nearby state recreational trails. Austin has 13 miles of paved bike trails in town and the over 500 acre Jay C. Hormel Nature Center consisting of restored prairie grasslands, woodlands and a new interactive interpretive center.

“We’re very excited to host the Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Opener,” said Sandy Forstner, chairman of the Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener committee in Austin. “This will be a great way to showcase not only the many hunting opportunities available surrounding Austin, but also the wide range of tourism opportunities in the immediate area.”

In addition to pheasant hunting, the weekend event will include a public dedication of Murphy Lake Worlein Tract north of Austin, and a Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener Community Banquet. Information and updates will be available at www.exploreminnesota.com/MNGPHO.

Initiated by Governor Dayton in 2011, this annual event has become a tradition that highlights the local hunting, recreational, and tourism opportunities host communities have to offer. This is the first Pheasant Hunting Opener for Gov. Walz as Governor, however, he’s attended previous openers as an invited guest.

Explore Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are assisting local partners in planning the event.
